English as a Second Language (ESL)English Language Fundamentals Level 1 to 5FUNDEMENTALS - 300 HRSStudent should be able to ask for and give information about simple daily routines, express preferences and order of events, ask for and give descriptions or information about locations, directions, time and weather. In addition, the student should be able to ask for and give information about simple past routines, express plans and intentions, describe current activities, give information about occupations and make requests, as well as write and read simple sentences. LEVEL 1 - 240 HRSStudent should reinforce and increase his/her ability to carry on basic conversation, express intention, describe present and past daily routines, ask for and give information about obligations, necessity, possibilities; ask for and make comparisons, express quantity, ask for and give simple advice as well as give more specific information about location. LEVEL 2 - 240 HRSStudent should be able to ask for and give more specific information about time, location, habits, plans, intentions, and opinions as well as report actions. LEVEL 3 - 240 HRSThe student should be better able to present opinions or arguments, counter an argument, extend and refuse invitations, justify his actions, persuade others, make suggestions, express conditions, describe in more details, and give and ask for advice. LEVEL 4 - 240 HRSThe student’s conversational skills should be expanded through a review of tenses, intensified oral practice, readings and vocabulary expansion. LEVEL 5 - 240 HRSStudent’s conversational skills will be expanded through readings, vocabulary building exercises and grammar view. Students will also be introduced to US culture, ideas and lifestyles. Students should acquire extensive vocabulary, sophisticated and complex sentence structures, fluent conversational ability, and advanced reading and writing skills. Reading and writing skills will also be improved. Business EnglishStudents will be taught to communicate effectively in a business setting. Students will learn and practice business communication, terminology and analysis of case studies, simulated business meetings and simulated business telephone usage, business writing and oral presentations Pronunciation and Accent ReductionThis program will help the students improve their ability both to speak like an American and to understand day to day American English. All areas of pronunciation and accent reduction will be covered including linking, pausing, stress and intonation. MASTER WRITINGWriting in English as a Second Language program will be increase student ability to produce coherent written sentences and paragraphs. A necessary byproduct of such a focus is to familiarize the student with punctuation, capitalization, spelling, and syllabification norms in the English language. The ultimate goal is to enable the student to communicate effectively and confidently (in writing) in whatever situation he/she might it necessary to do so. COLLEGE PREPThis course is designed to meet the special needs of the advanced English students who plan to attend college in The United States. The student will get intensive college level practice in the skill areas of Reading, Critical Thinking, Classroom Discussion, Note Taking and Listening and Writing. |
